Live from Norrath...

I've always thought of live events in MMORPG's as similar to winning the lottery. It sounds like a lot of fun but it's probably not going to happen to me.

For those that haven't heard of them, live events are, well, events that involve GM's playing along with players and special, one time only, things happening.

Well, it's possible my luck might be changing.

There is apparently a live event centered on a plague that is coming soon. It's mentioned in the
Live Update #6 notes on Test. And, if you have a character on the Test Server you may be able to get a sneak preview.

What's more SOE has dedicated an
entire subforum to the topic. If they're going to do that, I would think they better have the actual events to back it up.

In fact they had a few already. This is a
very cool thread detailing a live event related to the Adventure Pack. It was apparently brief but enjoyable. One player even got a new title and a letter from the Overlord himself out of it.

If you check the comments section of this very post you can read about Justin's interesting live event experience in the Thundering Steppes.

So, if you see another player really roleplaying their character don't think he or she is just hamming it up. It just may be a GM bringing you some live fun.

I actually encountered one of these GMs/"live events" just yesterday. Not sure what made me pay attention to the guy, considering he used typically mediocre typing skills (which, I might add, made it even harder to know if this wasn't just some looney roleplayer). Anyway, I was out in TS and he ran up near me and said "help help will someone help me [sic]". I said sure, more or less, and a quest accept box popped up in my face. I accepted, which spawned 2 blighted wolves right next to me, and I died.

Funny part of the quest was that all I had to do was help him. I didn't have to win. It was something like a moral test to find out if I'm nice to roleplayers or not.

Anywho, I got some nice exp and a journal in the mail that I assume is a unique and rare item. Or not, who knows.

Interesting feature for a game, but also very strange.

Thanks much for the report Justin - I edited the original post to draw some attention to it.
