EQ2HQ

Once in a while I come across a new (newish?) website that I think is worth mentioning. EQ2HQ is one such site.

It's basically just a handy, dandy way to keep track of your guild's heritage quests. Each member of a guild can sign up and fill out their heritage quests. You can mark a quest as complete, leave it blank or select what stage you are up to. The benefits are obvious.

I may need to kill Everling for Hadden's Earing and by checking my guild page on EQ2HQ, I can find out who else in my guild is on the same stage quickly and easily. If you have too many people in your guild for easy viewing you can compare certain members. You can also have your alts available on the same account and the chart will tell you whose alts are whose.

The chart is clear and simple and you can export it to a file or print it if you wish.

I have zero affiliation with whoever runs this site (I'm hoping it's just a player and not a devious corporation). I only mention it because it's not only completely free, but because I didn't see any advertising. We're using it for our forums PvP Guild, Aggroculture (now recruiting for a limited time - say hello on the forums if interested) on the recommendation of Aggro Forums poster Tpnew. And so far so good - nothing fancy but an effective system. I love to see community projects like this which make my game experience better.

I'll have some more topical stuff on Live Update 24 and Fallen Dynasty when I check them out a bit more.

One should mention that on such a site the password should be different from the account´s EQ2-login...

If this site exists to spy out EQ2-passwords they won´t need any advertising money...

I would hope someone would know not to use any password that is important.

This application looks interesting, I'm going to try it out.

Good tip Mr. Anon - people should always guard their passwords closely... and make a point to make important ones unique to that one task/site/application/etc.

Its no fun to have all of your gaming accounts compromised, and then worse, find out your bank account has been wiped - always keep you password guarded, but remember, if a site/game requires a password that it is being saved somewhere, and how its stored is subject to their own design scheme ... which may be more or less secure (I always try to assume it is less secure when I do not know the origin).

Anyway - don't mean to preach, but yeah... be careful folks.

Now, to be on-topic; yeah, our Aggroculture guild is just starting to make use of this application, and its simple, easy to use, and has a definite use that enhances the game; good job to whomever wrote it and maintains it.

I submitted too soon:

I just wanted to add that it also allows you to quickly reference the oGaming website for more information on the particular HQ you clicked on... its just another small useful feature that makes it that much useful - again, simple and sweet, noce work.

I have had something very much like this (but also a decent amount more) for guilds in the works for the past few weeks, it might roll out soonish depending on my free time :) Keep an eye out.

If your guild's name is not on the list you can still register - just pick "Not Listed" and then you can add it. I think anyway.

I've been using eq2hq for a good while now and I think the guys running it really are doing it out of the goodness of their heart. Thanks guys!
When you first use the site it is somewhat less than totally intuitive. A prominent walkthrough or FAQ might useful. But it uis a brilliant way to organise your guildies.

Hi, my name is Scott I play Trivarian and Swigen on Crushbone. A friend linked me this blog posting early today and thought i'd drop a note.

I wrote EQ2HQ and still currently support it, i'm glad to hear everyone likes it. I spent a lot of time on it and continually work to make it better.

On the password issue it is smart to not use your gaming password, however I can point out that the system encrypts all passwords before they are stored in the database using MD5 hash, so not even I can look them up. Just so you know, i'm not spying. :)

I have no way of knowing what guilds exist where, you have to create your own Guild entry. As someone else pointed out, just Select NOT LISTED and create a new guild.

If you have any other questions or issues there's now a contact email on the login page to contact me.

They system does have an FAQ in the main menu that tries to address how to use it. I guess maybe there should be a "how do i set myself up" FAQ available from the main login page and for new users. I will look into that...thanks for the tip.

Your feedback is most welcome, many of our features came from users.
