2006 Wishlist

When you wish upon a star...

As promised, my 2006 wishlist for EQII. Before I get into my wishlist I would like to mention that the EQ2 Daily podcast crew also did a wishlist during their latest show and had some good ideas.

I agree with them that a tradeskill revamp to add some fun to the underground dungeons of tedium, as I once called them, would be great. Water focused content sounds entertaining. I am also with them on PSP to EQII interactivity as I
briefly mentioned here. Okay, let the wishlist begin:

Storyline: I hope a compelling large-scale and dynamic storyline develops that will give a sense of purpose to player actions in EQII.
Here's my post on the subject. As a part of this storyline, I hope that players can have permanent changes on the world of Norrath through their action or inaction.

Raid interface: Here is a fantastic opportunity for EQII to set themselves apart. If they can change the raid interface to allow for easier switching of raid members between groups it would be amazing. Can you imagine a drag and drop interface which allowed the raid leader (before combat) to pull players from one group to another or switch players in two groups? How about designating a group leader with a mouse-click? I really hope SOE puts their best interface people to work on the raid interface.

Guild housing: I was hoping for Guild housing
back in May and I'm still hoping. I realize this can be tricky to implement but I think it has a lot of potential.

Armor models: The lack of diversity in the armor models has long been an issue for me and while I have seen some models recently that I like, there is plenty of room for improvement.

EQ2 Players: I wrote about how bad the EQ2 Players services were
back in July and I have not seen much of an improvement. I don't even mind the concept of asking players to pay for optional services but when those services are lame and badly implemented it is a problem. SOE has a fantastic chance to really make the EQ2 Players free and pay service a desirable and exciting part of the game. But right now it has a long, long way to go. Let's see a combination of exciting new ideas and fixes to the existing systems in 2006.

Arena: It is a shame to waste what could be an exciting diversion. We need some rankings systems as soon as possible. You can read more of my thoughts on this
here.

Racial Diversity: Right now, visual look is the only thing that sets the races apart. Where are the race-specific items, armor, quests and content?

Subclass Diversity: The 1-20 revamp may address subclass diversity in the early game but I would like to see it carried into the higher levels as well.

Mini-Games: Sure, the idea of mini-games may sound silly. But some fun little mini-games could add some much needed variety to gameplay and be a big draw.

Itemization: I feel that many of the items in game could use some work and some additional variety is much needed. Overall, the item situation is best described as bland.

Heroic Opportunities: A good system that has been neglected and needs some tweaking. Bring back some excitement to it as I discussed
here.

Quests: Keep them coming. I want innovation, fun events, compelling dialogue and story and alternate solutions for completion.

Graphics: I like the high fantasy style graphics of the expansion and I would like to see things continue in that direction. I want to see the team take some chances on some really interesting and exciting graphical content.

Faction: I would like the faction system to be meaningful throughout the entire game, from the first mob you slay to the last.

Beyond that, just surprise and amaze me with things I have not thought of! Not too much of a tall order, is it?

*Waves his hand and wiggles his fingers* Done. Should all be on live servers in... NOW. I'm being mean. Good suggestions, as always.

I am definitely with you on your suggestions. Especially quest related -- I'm a questaholic, I'd much rather do quests than random kills. I liked the variety of tasks in the Frostfell quest (even the buggy music one, that was a creative task!) and hope to see more quest chains like that.

I would like to see the mentoring system automatically scale spells/abilities down to whatever you have scribed in your book. No more have to shift hot bars around etc. Those spells with no precursors (like scout escape at 25) would then simply become red.

I actually like the fact that race is just a visual thing. Some people like planning their characters out ahead of time, sure, but I think it's a bad idea to force players to make decisions at the character-select screen that have consequences they won't see for 30 levels. Wanted that really cool staff? Sorry. Gnomes only. Unintended consequences are no fun.

And if the items/quests/whatever are sufficiently similar as to obviate the above complaint, then they're not really different except in...look.

I'm a huge fan of the EQ2 Players team, and what they have planned. But like you said, we've seen less actual incoming stuff and lots of "soon"(tm).

The EQ2 Stratics interview with the guys (shameless plug, shoot me! :p) showed some good stuff coming, but I know they've been busy....*sighs softly*

The raid interface change was talked about back at Fan Faire in June. While I realize that it's probably a lot more work then originally thought, some feedback on where they are with it would make the raid community VERY happy.

Let's be honest, communication makes us all happy! :o

Great list Aggro!

The year 2005 was the year Faarwolf quit SoE and Raijiin Thunderguard replaced the SoE Forums as Moderator of the Year.

He gets my vote for being the most biased moron ever to hit the net.

He will leave posts standing that talk about people's dicks but he will delete anything written about what really goes on there. It doesn't matter if it's written in an unbashing, straight-forward tone, Raijiin will delete anything that puts SoE in a bad light and leave standing offensive remarks in the same thread, as long as you're not talking about the company he works for.

Good going, SoE! You proved to me you can't handle anything of the truth but disgusting comments are ok with you.

Account cancelled. I'm going to WoW where you can at least speak the truth without Raijiin being around to hide it as fast as possible.

What were you saying again about 'kiddish' games? Your game has more immaturity then I'll *ever* see in WoW.

Go choke on your next expansion for all I care. I'm out. No more Sony products for this guy, no matter what was stamped with the name. You're done in my book.

Speaking of forum posts. I was perusing the boards this morning and came across this little gem here: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=gld&message.id=30265 - Entitled "Hearless SOE".

Get real guys. Putting in Mawie and the rest of your fanbois is just making this post more ridiculous then they are - and your fanbois ARE ridiculous! You banned his guild name for having Athena in it??? Have you nothing BETTER to do? You wonder why people criticize this game? Between the fanbois (who I could swear are SOE employees posting) and your ridiculous rules, you act like my mother and I'm too OLD to be parented by SOE.

This is the type of craziness that goes on there that needs to stop or I'll be gone in another month with the rest of my guild who quit already.

The Phuckphace Guild on Runneye still remains!

Talk about screwed up priorities and mismanagement.

I think it's funny they archived that post already. hehehe

I wish they'd have armor that just changes to match dynamically. My friend plays World of Warcraft and showed me how a chest piece changed to match her pants on her but looked completely different on someone else. I mean the style just changed to match that particular character.

I don't know how they do it, but I liked it a lot.

I wish EQII would have something like that, too. I've looked pretty unbearable at certain stages of my years leveling. HAHA
