Test Update 25: How Much for The Forest Maiden's Innocence?

I was reading the notes for Test Update 25 when I found myself drifting off to sleep. I awoke and began reading again but I nodded off immediately.

I kid, I kid. Okay, so there's nothing super exciting or controversial there but that's fine. I prefer smaller updates like this to crazy large ones like LU 24.

I'm definitely really looking forward to the consignment containers. Since I've been tradeskilling I could use the additional sales space. So that's the main part of this update for me.

The tailored clothing of various colors sound neat and I think it is a great idea. It lets people express their personalities and roleplay. Okay, so they are just color swaps as you can see
here on EQ2 Traders (thanks Bandit for the link). I believe they are still working on remodeling the character skeletons to make creating new armor/clothing pieces much easier. I really hope this is progressing well because I think it is a key component to the game's future success. But for now, some different colored clothing will be fun for the people who buy it and the tailors who make it. And the clothing pieces do have snazzy names, I have to say. I referenced one in the title to this post but they are all pretty entertaining.

The master spell trade system on the PvP server is definitely something I'm looking forward to. It has a nice element of risk and reward to it.

There's a mention of a mystery surrounding earrings, many of which will now have the lore flag added to them. If you put your mind to it I'm sure you can come up with a pretty good guess as to why this would be.

And I think putting voice over back into the newbie zones is a good idea for new players to draw them into the game. It will be fun for alts as well.

I'm looking forward to this one going live. But next time, give me some controversy to pontificate on!

I'm totally at a loss for the earrings going to lore, I assume it is for to have pairs, but for some reason I think it might be something bigger in the end.

Well, playing on test I can tell you that they've moved the inventory buttons around internally.
Where I used to have hotkeys for my two charm slots, I now have Cloak and Belt.
Where my food and drink hotkeys were I now have my two charm slots.
It's easy enough to re-create the hotkeys, it's just interesting to see how they've moved stuff around :)

I'm personally hoping that you'll be able to see them worn. I think it'd be cool to see a person's earing(s) pierced through the ear.

But that does not explain the Lore-side of it.

...huh? You give him some gold, he gives you a spell in return. Where's the risk/reward factor? =P

Zulu Dinkus Asked "What do the post mean when they talk about changing the charactor skeletons?"
They use skeletal animations (i.e. one common skeleton that animates several character models) in many games... I think this is what he meant by the word 'skeleton' in this context.

However, I think what he really meant was that they are reworking how worn items map to the polygons on player models.

As I understand things, right now they have to make several versions of each armor type (perhaps even one for each character model) so that it looks right on each character. I believe they are trying to work out a system that automajically reshapes the armor based on anchor points on each of the character models. That would allow them to only have to define anchor points on each of the character models once, and from there-on-in all models would use those anchors to map to the character models.

Now... I am not a character modeler, I'm just a programmer, so I might be waaaaay off base - this is just what I am guessing SOE is doing to try and cut down the workload required in introducing new armor pieces to the game. They just have to make on model that would use the character model's anchor points to map to.

Sorry Aggro,

But I would love for there to be a couple of dramaless updates for a while ;D

I'm pretty sure the lore being added to most earrings would be because they're adding another earring slot (about time, why can't I wear 2, I have 2 ears) and don't want you to be wearing 2 of the same earring. Cool stuff.
